Geography

Velky Šenov is located at the mouth of the creek in the Šenovský Vilémovský creek in the valley of the two rivers. To the east rises the 543 m high Partyzánský vrch ( Bolzano ), whose summit was removed by a quarry to a large extent and in the southeastern Hrazený ( Pirsken, 610 m). Its neighboring towns are Vilémov ( Wölmsdorf ) to the west, Lipová ( Hainspach ) in the northwest, the West German Sohland in the north, Šluknov ( Schluckenau ) in the east, Stare Křečany (Alt -Ehrenberg ) in the southeast and Mikulášovice ( Nixdorf ) in the south and west.

Geology and natural area is located in the Bohemian Velky Šenov Netherlands, also called the Swallow Auer tip, the southern part of the Lusatian mountain country.

History

The village was founded in the 12th century during the German colonization. The first mention of Georg forest was in 1346 in parish registers of the diocese of Meissen, at that time was ready a parish.

The Grange was Schönau since 1404 owned by the rule Hainspach. 1551 held the Reformation feeder. 1621 the Counter- Reformation and Schoenau 1690 was again purely Catholic.

The people originally lived by farming and the flax mill. Since the 18th century, the textile industry catchment and in the 19th century held the metal processing. It moved at a steel factory and in 1884 the first factory galvanic Austria -Hungary was established in Schoenau.

On October 4, 1907 Schönau was raised by Franz Joseph I to the city and was named Grossschönau. The German population was expelled after 1945. Today in the town Posamentenindustrie, an artificial flowers factory, the art of printing Severografia and a fish cannery resident. Largest company in the place is the band steel and Galvanisationsunternehmen Železárny Velky Šenov sro, which emerged from the existing since 1884 Hille & Müller cold rolling mill and galvanizing.

Velky Šenov consists of the districts Janovka ( Johannesberg ), Knížecí ( Fiirstenwalde ) Leopoldka ( Leopoldsruh ), Maly Šenov (small Schönau ), Stare Hrabeci (Alt Earl Walde ) and Velky Šenov ( Grossschönau ). Basic settlement units are Janovka, Knížecí, Maly Šenov, Stare Hrabeci and Velky Šenov.

The municipality is divided into the Katastralbezirke Knížecí, Stare Hrabeci and Velky Šenov.
