Vienne

The department of Vienne [ vjɛn ] is a French department of atomic number 86 It is in the west of the country in the Poitou-Charentes region and is named after the river Vienne.

Geography

The Vienne is bordered to the north by the department of Maine -et -Loire and Indre -et -Loire, on the east by the department of Indre, in the southeast on the department of Haute- Vienne, in the south of the Charente and the west by the Deux -Sèvres.

The eponymous Vienne flows through the department from south to north. Their left tributary Clain crosses the department capital flows near Poitiers and the second largest city of Chatellerault in Vienne. The east of the department pervades the Gartempe also südnördlicher direction and flows near La Roche- Posay in the Creuse, which then forms the border with the department of Indre, before it flows into the Vienne. The extreme south-west of the department of Charente drained, while passing from the south of the Charente and flows back into the same department in a U- shaped curve.
