Víkingur Gøta

History

The club was formed in November 2007 from the merger of GÍ Gøta and LIF Leirvík, the place of GÍ in Formuladeildin (now Effodeildin ) was taken. The new name Víkingur was announced on 4 February 2008.

In the second year after the founding of the first success was recorded by the Faroese Cup winner was by a 3-2 win against EB / Streymur. 2012 succeeded against the same opponent the second win in the Cup final, which was decided on penalties in 2013 and remained Víkingur 2-0 EB / Streymur victorious and was thus able to defend the title. Against champions HB Tórshavn succeeded the following year, a 2-1 win in the Supercup.

The home games are played in Sarpugerði Stadium, which holds 3,000 spectators.

Women's Soccer

The women's team of Víkingur took over due to the merger, in 2008 the place of GÍ Gøta in the first Deild, establishing itself there straight away with two third place finishes in a row. The following two seasons were each finished in fourth place. 2014 the team went a merger with ÍF Fuglafjørður the new club ÍF / Víkingur.
