Vila Nova de Milfontes [ vilɐ novɐ də mil'fõtɨʃ ] (Portuguese for " new village thousand sources " ) is a Portuguese parish ( freguesia ) in Odemira with 5081 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011 ) and an area of ​​76, 4 km ². The place is located in the Parque Natural do Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina, a nature reserve which runs along the entire south-western coast of Portugal. It is located on the right bank directly at the river mouth of the Rio Mira into the Atlantic.

It was founded in 1486 by King Dom Joao II. Built in a dominant position at the mouth of the Rio Mira Forte de São Clemente from the 13th century served to defend the port and as protection against pirate raids from North Africa and against the upriver location Odemira. Today the old town core is important for the tourism.
