This corresponds to a population density of 9.7 inh. / Km ².

History

Colos was first mentioned in writing in 1383. On June 26, 1499 Colos received city rights. At that time the town still belonged to the district of Sines. 1836 Colos was assigned to the district of Vila Nova de Milfontes and later after resolution of this circle Cercal do Alentejo and until 1855 moved the responsibility of the circle of Odemira. Colos a town in the Alentejo with 500 years of history celebrated his birthday in 1999.

A well-known historical figure of Colos was the plane commander Brito Pais, one of the first air pioneers of Portugal in 1924 along with Sarmento de Beires performed the first direct flight from Portugal to Macau, which started in Vila Nova de Milfontes.
