Villers-sur-Saulnot

Villers -sur- Saulnot is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Villers -sur- Saulnot situated at an altitude of 375 m above sea level, 9 km west of Héricourt and 12 km west-northwest of the city of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the western part of the Burgundian Gate, on the southern edge of a basin between the heights of the Massif de Saulnot in the North and the Bois d' Arcey in the south.

The area of ​​2.37 km ² large municipality territory is made up primarily of a pool, the average is at 370 m and has no surface drainage. In the north of the site lies the moorland Marais de Saulnot. The creek Sapoie ensures the drainage to the south, but seeps at Homestead La Baume ( stalactite ). The area is primarily used for agriculture (arable and meadow land ). To the southeast of the municipality of soil ranges on the wooded ridge of the Bois d' Arcey, on the 500 meters, the highest elevation of Villers -sur- Saulnot is achieved. This ridge consists of a resistant limestone layer of the middle Jurassic period.

Neighboring communities of Villers -sur- Saulnot are Chavanne in the north, Désandans in the east, the south and Arcey Saulnot in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Villers -sur- Saulnot belonged to the rule Granges. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since 2001, Villers -sur- Saulnot is a member of the comprehensive 20 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays d' Héricourt. The village does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Saulnot.

Attractions

Before the town hall ( Mairie ) is a large round fountain with the statue of Saint -Jean -Baptiste.

Approx. 1.5 km south of the village is the Baume de Gonvillars, an active water cave which can be entered via a fossil input.

Population

With 156 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Villers -sur- Saulnot one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century ( in 1886 182 people were still counted ), a slight population growth has been recorded since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Villers -sur- Saulnot was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area and agglomeration Belfort -Montbéliard their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Saulnot after Arcey. Further road links exist with Chavanne and Gonvillars.
