Champey

Champey is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Champey is located at an altitude of 360 m above sea level, 6 km west of Héricourt and about 12 km northwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the western part of the Burgundian Gate, in a small valley at the southern foot of the Grand Bois de Champey.

The area of ​​11.30 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the Burgundian Gate. The central part of the area is crossed from west to east direction from a wide basin that has a width of about two kilometers. Here rises the village stream, which provides for drainage east to the Ruisseau de la Carpière (tributary of Lizaine ). History

The territory of Champey was inhabited in prehistoric times, which is a settlement site on Mont Tronchet and the megalithic Pierre- qui Tourne - witness. During the Middle Ages the village belonged first to the church of Saint- Maimboeuf in Montbéliard and the monastery Belchamp.
