Voujeaucourt

Voujeaucourt is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Voujeaucourt is located at 310 m, about four kilometers southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located on the left ( southern ) bank of the Doubs against the Fort du Mont Bart, in the southwest of the Bay of Montbeliard, on the northern edge of the outermost ridges of the Jura.

The area of ​​9.45 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. The northern boundary runs mostly along the Doubs, the multiple turns in a about one kilometer wide flat Talniederung here flows to the west and is accompanied by the waterways of the Rhine- Rhone Canal. In the area of ​​the mouth of Allan is also a small area belongs to the north of the Doubs to Voujeaucourt. History

Vyiascort is Voujeaucourt in the 12th century under the name first mentioned. At this time the Counts of Montbéliard leaving a portion of the area south of the Doubs to the establishment of the monastery Belchamp from which no traces are left today. In the Middle Ages was a part of the village to the Lords of Neuchatel, while the other part was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard. This resulted in its territory the Reformation, which is why the village has two churches. Since 1467 Voujeaucourt had an important role thanks to its bridge over the Doubs. In 1613 the first paper mill began operations.

With the Peace of Nijmegen reached the part belonging to Neuchâtel in 1678 to France. This led to the split in the community, since the other part remained in the county of Montbéliard. Only with the inclusion of this county in the French Republic also Voujeaucourt 1793 reunited.

The 19th century was marked by improving transport links and an economic revival. From 1824 to 1828 the Rhone-Rhine Canal was built. At the French railway network Voujeaucourt was connected to Montbéliard in 1858 with the opening line of Besançon; and 1886 was the inauguration of the lateral line from Montbéliard to Saint- Hippolyte. Today Voujeaucourt is part of the community association Communauté d' Agglomà du Pays de Montbéliard.

Attractions

Today's Reformed Church, with its oval ground plan was inaugurated in 1833. From 1867 the Catholic Church of Saint- Michel, whose interior a wooden statue of Christ of the old monastery Belchamp and a painting of the Pilgrims of Emmaus by Pierre Jouffroy are derived.

Population

With 3415 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Voujeaucourt belongs to the medium-sized municipalities in the department of Doubs. Throughout the 20th century, the population increased significantly to total (1901 persons were counted in 1548 ), with some fluctuations were recorded. In the late 1970s, there was a decrease of 6 % ​​, which was more than compensated for the 80 years through a clear increase in population. Today, the settlement area of Voujeaucourt has grown together with those of Beard, Bavans and Berche.

The nearest links to the A36 motorway, which runs through the municipality, is located at a distance of about 3 km. Further road links exist with beard and Écot. Voujeaucourt has a station on the railway line Dole - Besançon -Montbéliard - Belfort.
