Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (formerly Skywest Airlines ) is a Western Australian regional airline based in Perth and based on the Perth Airport.

History

The former Skywest arose from the company founded in 1963 Carnarvon Air Taxi. 1972 renamed Skywest, the company received from the Customs Authority with the task of coastal surveillance. The order was easily combined with a scheduled service. Skywest took over and after several small airlines and their routes and aircraft. The resulting fleet of up to 15 aircraft types has been on two, the 50 and 100 reduced at the end of the 1980s, Fokker.

The company was sold several times and was until 2013 owned by CaptiveVision Capital from Singapore and the Avion Group of Iceland. Under a cooperation agreement with Virgin Australia Skywest uses their frequent flyer program Velocity and operational in their route network since 2011 initially several of Virgin Australia ATR 72-500 purchased. In October 2012 Virgin Australia announced that one wants Skywest Airlines completely take over. In early April 2013, the sale by the authorities was approved and implemented. To May 7, 2013, the airline changed its name to Virgin Australia Regional Airlines.

Destinations

From its base at the Perth airport from Virgin Australia Regional Airlines serves many destinations in Western Australia, including Esperance and Port Hedland and Melbourne, Darwin, and is currently the only foreign destination Denpasar on Bali.
