Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (Spanish or engl for:. "Long live the life or death and all his friends " ) is the fourth studio album by English rock band Coldplay. The album was released in German-speaking countries on 13 June 2008.

Background

Already in 2007 there was speculation about a successor to the published 2005 album X & Y. Because of dissatisfaction with the band so far completed all material was discarded and set a new release date for the spring of 2008. This was ultimately postponed again. Under the heading prospectus published on the website of two new songs Coldplay - Famous Old Painters and Glass of Water - announced. This led to the conjecture that the prospectus of the title of the new album was.

Coldplay worked on this album with Brian Eno, who has influenced the musical style of her album X & Y. The first single Violet Hill was released in Germany on 9 May 2008. During a publication strategy, the band deliver the song from 29 April for a week for free download on their website decided. The title of Lost! went into the UK charts without being released as a single.

At the 2009 Grammy Awards, the album was awarded the rock album of the year. Viva la Vida The song was the song of the year and also the best pop performance a band.
