Vladimír Martinec

Vladimír Martinec ( born December 22, 1949 in Lomnice, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech ice hockey coach and former ice hockey player of the 1970s. He is one of Europe's most successful hockey players and scored a total of 343 goals in the first league, 126 in the first Bundesliga and 155 international goals. Martinec won the most important award of the Czechoslovak ice hockey, the Zlata Hokejka (Golden Schäger ), four times in his career. His son Tomas was also ice hockey player and also played for the German national team.

Career as a player

Martinec began his career in 1967 at Tesla Pardubice in the Czech league. For many years he played for this club, only in the 1978/79 season he went in 21 games for Dukla Jihlava on the ice. Until 1981, he played for Pardubice and scored a total of 343 goals in 539 games in the Extraliga, before he joined the Federal Republic of Germany and played ESV Kaufbeuren. Besides Martinec were Strida Florian, who has played in the late 1960s as a defender in Kaufbeuren, committed as a coach and Bohuslav Šťastný Tesla Pardubice. The trio remained until the end of the 1984/85 season in Kaufbeuren. Then Martinec and Stastny ended their active career and Florian Strida returned to Pardubice.

Internationally

Vladimír Martinec was an integral part of the Czechoslovakian national team of the 1970s. He participated in all World Cups 1970-1979 and again in 1981 was also in the team. He won three gold medals at the World Championships (1972, 1976 and 1977 ) and was three times appointed to the All- Star Team (1974, 1976 and 1977 ). Other highlights of his career include appearances at the Olympic Winter Games in 1972, 1976, and 1980 and at the Canada Cup in 1976. In 289 games for the national team, he scored 155 goals.

Career as a coach

After retiring as a player was Vladimír Martinec 1985 youth coach at Tesla Pardubice. As the first team in 1988 descended into the first league of Czechoslovakia Vladimír Martinec was promoted to head coach. In 1990 he returned to Germany and was an assistant coach Richard Pergl ESV Kaufbeuren. After the rise of Kaufbeurer at the end of the season 1990/91 in the Bundesliga Martinec was promoted to head coach in order to realize the league in the top flight.

After two years at the ESDC he had to go after the twelfth round of the 1992/93 season. Then ordered him the SC Memmingen, he from November 1992 to November 1993 supervised ( close to bankruptcy in December 1993) ( in the season 1993/94 was Jiří Kochta his successor ).

In 1998 he oversaw the Czech national team as assistant coach at all major championships and won the 1998 Olympic Gold and 1999, 2000 and 2001, the world champion title. Also at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, he oversaw the Czech team as assistant coach. The junior national team of the Czech Republic was trained at the U20 World Cup 1998 by Vladimír Martinec ..

The biggest prize of his career came in 2001 when he was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame. In the season 2004/ 05 he took over the coaching job at HC Moeller Pardubice and led the club to the Czech league title. Today Vladimír Martinec operates a hockey school together with Vladimír Šťastný.
