Lomnice nad Popelkou

Lomnice ( German Lomnitz at the Popelka ) is a town in the Liberec Region kraj (Czech Republic ) on the border of the Bohemian Paradise ( Cesky Raj ) and Giant Mountains (Krkonoše ). Lomnice lies on the River Popelka at an altitude of 478 m asl and has about 5800 inhabitants. The city lives mainly from tourism, but also of industrial companies in the textile, engineering and wood processing. Lomnice is also known by the production of biscuits.

History

The oldest written record dates from Dalimil from the year 1232.

The city Lomnice consists of the districts Cerna ( Tscherna ) Dráčov ( Dratschow ) Chlum, Kosov ( Koschow ) Lomnice ( Lomnitz at the Popelka ), Morcinov ( Morzinow ), Nové Dvory ( Neuhöfen ) Ploužnice ( Plauschnitz ), Rváčov ( Rwatschow ) Skuhrov ( Skuchrow ) Tikov ( Tikow ) and Zelecha ( Schelech ). Basic settlement units are Cerna, Hoření Lomnice ( Oberlomnitz ) Hrádka, Chlum, Kosov, Lomnice, Morcinov, Nové Dvory Ploužnice, Rváčov, Skuhrov, Zelecha and Zizkov.

The municipality is divided into the Katastralbezirke Chlum pod Taborem, Kosov, Lomnice, Ploužnice pod Taborem, Rváčov and Zelecha.
