Benecko
Benecko ( German: Benecko ) is a municipality in the western Giant Mountains in Okres Semily, Liberec Region, the Czech Republic. In 2004, 1,124 residents lived in the community.
Geography
The town is located on the western slope of the mountain Zaly ( German Heidelberg).
History
The town was first mentioned in 1304.
Community structure
The Benecko consists of the districts Benecko ( Benecko ), Dolni Štěpanice ( Niederstepanitz ), Horni Štěpanice ( Oberstepanitz ) Mrklov ( Merkel village), Rychlov ( Richlow ) Štěpanická Lhota ( Stepanitz Lhota ), Zákoutí ( Zakouti ) and Zaly ( Zaly or. Heidelberg). Basic settlement units are Benecko, Dolni Štěpanice Horni Štěpanice Lhotecko, Mrklov, Rychlov and Štěpanická Lhota.
The municipality is divided into the Katastralbezirke Benecko, Dolni Štěpanice Horni Štěpanice and Mrklov.
Attractions
Not far from Benecko are the remains of a Gothic castle ruins ( " Wallenstein Castle " ), built in 1304 and already in 1543 to leave. In the course of archaeological excavations in the 1990s, most of the keep was exposed.
Economy
Benecko is a center of winter tourism.
Traffic
Buses run regularly after Jilemnice and Vrchlabí.
