Vlastimil Brodský

Vlastimil Brodsky (* December 15 1920 in Hrušov; † 20 April 2002 Slunečná ) was a Czech film and television actor.

Life and work

Vlastimil Brodsky was born into a theater actress in 1920 in Hrušov. He was enthusiastic about early for acting and still took during his schooling first lessons by Emil František Burian, who brought him to his theater later than 19 - years of a first engagement. Here he worked until about 1940, when the avowed communist Burian was arrested. He then moved to the ( semi-legal ) Větrník Theatre, played at the City Theatre in Prague and at the Army Theatre before he joined the Ensemble 1945 by EF Burian. From 1948 to 1990 he had a long-standing commitment to theater at the Prague theater in the vineyards and was also a guest at the National Theatre.

Since 1946 he worked as an actor in the film, since the mid-1950s in the major roles. He often appeared in children's films and fairy tale films, such as in the popular TV series Pan Tau, or later in the series The Visitor. His greatest success that made him internationally known, was the title role of the Jewish baker in the buffer Oscar - nominated film Jakob the Liar by Frank Beyer. For this role, he was awarded the Silver Bear at the Berlinale in 1975 and the National Prize of the GDR. In the GDR, he entered a second time for the TV comedy Doctor But besides Agnes Kraus front of the camera and played even in old age still in many film and television productions.

Brodsky was twice, most recently, married with another great star of the Czech film, Jana Brejchová. His son from his first marriage, Marek Brodský, is an actor and writer. His daughter Tereza Brodská is also a renowned actress.

He died in 2002 by suicide. In Prague, a street was named after him.
