Volcano is the fifth studio album by the Norwegian metal band Satyricon.

Formation

Satyricon signed prior to the recording of the album a contract with the major label Capitol Records, where John Serba of Allmusic, however, no commercialization sees.

For song Fuel for Hatred together with Jonas Åkerlund, a video was recorded.

On the promotional tour for the album Joey Jordison played as a replacement for Frost in the United States drums, as this was not a visa.

Style and content

Satyr Satyricon referred to as " rock-oriented black metal band with progressive touch " what Volcano best show of all captured so far albums. The production and the riffs are based on the previous album, Rebel Extravaganza, Volcano oriented but more on the skirt.

The title summarizes Volcano loud Satyr the content and the music of the album best together and otherwise has no deeper meaning.

Reception

The album won several awards; it got the Spellemannprisen 2002 in the category Metal album, an alarm Award for " Metal Album of the Year " and for Fuel for Hatred as " Song of the Year ", as well as an Oslo Award for best album overall. It was also placed # 4 on the Norwegian charts.

Among the critics, the album sparked mixed reactions. While primarily from the Black Metal scene were heard allegations about the style change, Ralf praised by The Metal Observer the album as "the heaviest piece of the band history, just like the straightest ."
