Vulvoz

Vulvoz is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vulvoz is located at 715 m above sea level. M., about 9 km southwest of the town of Saint- Claude ( straight line ). The farming village extends in the Jura, in an opening to the west basin at the foot of the plateau of Combe Mathieu.

The area of ​​4.49 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area occupied by the basin of Vulvoz, which is bordered to the north, east and south by steep, partially traversed by bands of rock slopes. The limit is on the top edge, which leads to a high plateau. Near the Belvédère de Sur Cuchet is at 1000 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Vulvoz. The basin is drained by the village stream of Vulvoz west to deep in the Jura Mountains Longviry (tributary of Bienne ). The area of Vulvoz is part of the Parc Naturel Régional du Haut- Jura.

Neighboring communities of Vulvoz are Larrivoire in the north, Les Bouchoux in the east, the south and Choux Rogna in the West.

History

Is first mentioned in the 13th century Vulvoz. It belonged to the possession of the Abbey of Saint -Claude. In the late Middle Ages, the village formed its own little rule. Together with the Franche -Comté Vulvoz came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 18 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Vulvoz one of the smallest towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1901 101 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the mid- 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Vulvoz was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially livestock and dairy farming, as well as by the forestry village. The water power of the village stream was used early for the operation of a mill. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector there are no other jobs in the community.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads to Choux of Molinges in the valley of Bienne. Another road connection with Larrivoire.
