Walbersdorf

Walbersdorf is a district and a cadastral district of the city Matter castle in Burgenland. Its Hungarian name is Borbolya.

History

Before Christ's birth, the area was part of the Celtic kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the area of the Celtic hillfort castle on the Schwarzenbacher Castle Hill.

Later, under the Romans today Walbersdorf then lay in the province of Pannonia.

1972 Walbersdorf was annexed to the district capital Matter castle.

Policy

Mayor of the local part is Walbersdorf Hubert Lang of the SPÖ. Walbersdorf was also residence of two Burgenland provincial governors: Anton Schreiner and Lorenz Karall.
