We Could Be the Same

We Could Be the Same (Turkish: Ayni Olabilirdik ) is a song by Turkish nu-metal band maNga and their contribution to the Euro Vision Song Contest 2010, which took place on May 29 in Fornebu / Bærum near Oslo.

Was already announced in January 2010 that the band Turkey in the Euro Vision Song Contest will represent. At this time the band prepared their song already active proposals.

In February, the band sent a three song suggestions to the Turkish TV channel TRT, who selected the participating contribution to the competition. All songs are written in English.

On March 3, TRT announced that We Could Be the Same shall be the official Turkish contribution to the ESC. On the same day the song was released as a download single.

Text and music of the songs were written by singer Ferman Akgül and Evren Özdemir. The CD- single, which is produced by Sony Music Entertainment, was released on 20 May 2010.

Euro Vision Song Contest

In the second semifinal of the song took first place with 118 points, ahead of Safura (Azerbaijan; 113 points) and Sofia Nizharadze (Georgia, 106 points).

When Euro Vision Song Contest 2010, which took place on May 29, 2010 in Fornebu / Bærum near Oslo, the song reached with 170 points just ahead of Romania ( 162) in second place and only had to Lena with her song Satellite to defer. The band received from Azerbaijan, France and Croatia twelve points.

After the ESC

The song reached on 4 June 2010 the 29th place of the Swedish charts. It is the first chart entry of the band outside of their own country. A week later, the song climbed in the Swiss charts and took there the 56th.

Music Video

In her official music video that was produced for Euro Vision for the presentation of their songs, you see the band in an abandoned factory. To set the tape around there are several people who do not move during the whole video. Some of these have weapons and wearing war paint. Only two people swing at the beginning and end of the video white and black flags.

The choreography in the semifinals and the finals of the Euro Vision Song Contest you see the band and a robot that moves in the course of the song and "turns " towards the end of the song.

Content

The song is about the love of the protagonist to an unknown woman. He describes it as his dream and says that it could be far more than she is herself worth.

Later he says that the world is a stage for him and the love a never-ending drama. He tells her that they can beat the other with their weapons together.

In the refrain, the protagonist says he is in love with her, but without knowing their names. He also says that they might be the same, at least for one night, which is supposed to indicate that the protagonists have different character traits.
