Wenzel Lorenz Reiner

Wenzel Lorenz Reiner (Czech: Václav Vavrinec Reiner ) ( born August 8, 1689 Prague, † October 9, 1743 ) was an important painter and fresco painter of the Baroque in Bohemia.

Life

Wenzel Lorenz Reiner was baptized on August 8, 1689 in the Church of St. Havel in Prague. He came from an artistic family. His grandfather Martin Reiner was a prominent builder. He received his first training from his father Josef Reiner, who worked as a sculptor in Prague. Subsequently, he was student of the painter Johann Peter Brandl and Michael Wenzel Halbax ( Halwachs ) and after 1705 by Anton Ferdinand Schweiger. At a young age he set up a painting workshop and became a member of the Prague painter Brotherhood. His work was also influenced by the operating in Silesia painter Michael Willmann. Among his earliest frescoes are the apostles martyrdom, which he created in 1714 for the monastery church in Osek. His main work, the Last Judgment in the Prague Kreuzherrenkirche is called from the years 1722 to 1723.

Reiner was one of the most important artists of the Bohemian Baroque. Side panel and altarpieces he created monumental battles and landscapes and also worked as a fresco painter, which served him, the works of Johann Christoph Lischka as a model. The ceiling paintings were often in collaboration with Franz Maximilian Kanka and Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer. In addition to several orders in Silesia and Austria and was mainly active in Bohemia.

After 1730 he came under the influence of Cosmas Damian Asam, whom he met in the facilities of St. Hedwig's Church in the city and by the choice he anticipated elements of the future Rococo style.

Family

On November 21, 1725 married Wenzel Lorenz Reiner citizens daughter Anna Veronika Duke of Prague. The wedding ceremony took place in the Kreuzherrenkirche by the then General Grand Master Matthew Böhmb. The marriage produced five children. His final resting place he found in the aisle of St. Giles 's Church in the Old Town of Prague.
