Criticism

In 2010, Muff won for the third time, the Swiss Cup final in Ascona, a national exam with change of horses. This criticism of Muff was loud, as he brought Escorial V a very difficult to riding horse with in the exam. Pius Schwizer, who also took part in this test is cites as following:

" Escorial was not to lead. Such a block can not ride one. He formed a risk of injury especially for the 18 year old Annina Züger. "

Muff itself expresses this:

"Success does not properly joy. Escorial is a sensitive horse, with my competitors had difficulties. This happens just in a Final with change of horses. Maybe some are now violated in her honor. Everything can not deport you on the horse. "

A week after the Swiss Cup final took both Pius Schwizer and Werner Muff as part of the Swiss team at the Nations Cup in Hickstead part. This was regarded as almost last chance to prevent a descent of Switzerland from the Meydan FEI Nations Cup. However, the Swiss team did not make it into the second round and finished ninth. Coach Rolf Grass made this the discord in the team since the cup final of Ascona responsible. As a result, the change of horses was abolished at the Swiss Cup final in Ascona and replaced by a test using two rounds.
