Westbury, Tasmania

Westbury is a small town in the central- northern part of the Australian state of Tasmania, about 30 km west of Launceston on the Bass Highway. The population in 2011 was 1,476. Westbury is part of the prefecture Meander Valley Council.

The town was founded in 1828 by the Van Diemen's Land Company and should serve as a gateway for the North West. This function but was later taken over by the Deloraine located a few kilometers west ( Tasmania ).

Attractions in Westbury are the White House in 1941 and the maze Westbury Maze.

Since 2002, the Bass Highway passes not through Westbury through, but via a bypass at the site.

The name derives from the town of Westbury in Wiltshire, England.
