Whit Bissell

Whitner Nutting Bissell ( born October 25, 1909 in New York City; † 5 March 1996 in Los Angeles ) was an American actor.

Life

Bissell studied acting at the co-operating with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Carolina Playmakers. Then he appeared in several plays on Broadway. 1940 Bissell was first seen on the big screen in The Lord of the Seven Seas. The first film role, in which he was mentioned in the credits, he played in 1946 in the comedy It Should not Happen to a Dog. 1957 Bissell became better known for his roles in the horror film Death has black claws with Michael Landon. By then he was already in over 80 films, was mostly to see science fiction B-movies. Between 1959 and 1961 Bissell played in the television series Bachelor Father.

In 1960 he turned his Western The Magnificent Seven and the science fiction film The Time Machine based on the novel by HG Wells. One of his few major roles in Hollywood, he played in 1963 as Mr. Burris in the multiple Oscar-winning film Hud with Paul Newman and Patricia Neal. 1966/67, Bissell appeared in the television hit series The Time Tunnel as general Heywood Kirk. Then he looked more than 20 years in countless TV shows and movies with. His last television appearance was the now suffering from Parkinson 's Disease actor in 1984 in an episode of Falcon Crest and retired after the return from the public.

In 1994, Bissell of the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films the award for his life's work. He was 18 years on the Board of Directors of the Screen Actors Guild. He also sat on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
