Geography

Geographical location

The place is in Heckengäu on the so-called plate above the Enztales and has a 1.5 km north-south and 1.2 km east- west extension. The streets L1134 and L1135 form the main road and cross the city north-south and east-west.

Community structure

The municipality Wiernsheim include the former municipalities Iptingen, Pinache and Serres, which include only the villages of the same name.

History

The foundation of the oldest districts Wiernsheim and Iptingen goes back to the period between 500 and 700. The two places were first documented in the 12th century. The districts Pinache and Serres were established in 1699 by religious refugees ( Waldenses ), where the Duke of Württemberg after their expulsion from Piedmont in what is now northern Italy, the country had assigned.

In the course of municipal reform in Baden- Württemberg, the community Pinache was incorporated on January 1, 1970. On January 1, 1974, the incorporation of the communities Iptingen and Serres took place.

Religions

With the Reformation Wiernsheim as quite Württemberg became Lutheran. The communities of Protestant Waldensians who were settled in 1699 Pinache and Serres are now merged into the Evangelical Church. End of the 18th century led Johann Georg Rapp of Iptingen from a community of radical pietists, of which a large part emigrated with Rapp together the early 19th century to North America.

Today, there are in addition to several Protestant churches and a Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church.

Awards

Wiernsheim was awarded in early 2009 as the sixth community in Germany and first municipality in Baden- Württemberg to the European Energy Award Gold ( eea ). Here, among other things, energy efficiency and climate protection activities of the community and the commitment of local initiatives was evaluated, for example to increase the use of renewable energies.

Twinning

The community Wiernsheim has partnerships with New Harmony in Indiana, USA (since August 23, 1980 ), with Pinasca in the province of Turin / Italy (25 September 1982), and since 1998 with Ayancik in Turkey. The latter is intended to strengthen the friendship between Germans and Turks, and promote the integration of Turkish citizens in Wiernsheim.
