William Kirkpatrick (New York politician)

William Kirkpatrick ( born November 7, 1769 in Amwell, New Jersey, † September 2, 1832 in Salina, New York) was an American physician and politician. Between 1807 and 1809 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Kirkpatrick was born during the British colonial period in Amwell in Hunterdon County in Zion. He graduated in 1788 at Princeton College. Kirkpatrick studied medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 1795 and then began to practice in Whitestown in Oneida County. In 1806 he moved to Salina (now part of Syracuse ) in Onondaga County, where he continued to work as a doctor. He was Superintendent of the Onondaga Salt Springs.

As opponents of a strong central government, he joined at that time, which was founded by Thomas Jefferson Democratic- Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1806 for the 10th Congress, he was in the 15th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Nathan Williams on March 4, 1807. He retired after the March 3, 1809 out of the Congress.

Between 1810 and 1831 he worked as a superintendent in Onondaga Salt Springs again. He died on 2 September 1832 in Salina and was then buried at the Oakwood Cemetery in Syracuse.
