William Sigei

William Sigei ( William Cheruiyot Sigei; born October 11, 1969 in Chebeing'o Village, Kapsimotwo, Bomet District, Rift Valley Province ) is a former Kenyan long-distance runner.

According to an eighth place finish at the World Cross Country Championships in 1992 in Boston Sigei was 1993 and 1994 world champion in cross-country running over the years. 1993 in Amorebieta (Spain ) finished Kenya the first five ranks. In his title defense in 1994, the track in Budapest led along the bank of the Danube. It ruled also extremely unusual for the Keniaten temperatures below freezing.

After he had become in 1993 only tenth in the 10,000 - meter race at the World Athletics Championships ( 28:54,39 min), followed as a career highlight in the summer of 1994, the world record: On July 22, 1994 Sigei ran at the Bislett Games in Oslo 10,000 yards in 26:52,23 min.
