Willy Lindström

Willy Bo Lindström ( born May 5, 1951 in Grums ) is a former professional Swedish ice hockey player ( Right Wing ), who in 1975 to 1987 for the Winnipeg Jets, Edmonton Oilers and the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League and for the Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey Association played.

Career

As a junior, he played in his hometown for the Grums IK in the Swedish second league. At 20, he moved to the first division for Västra Frölunda HC.

After participating in the Ice Hockey World Championships in 1974 and 1975 he moved to the Winnipeg Jets in the World Hockey Association. Here he could win the Avco World Trophy in his first season 1975/76. The team around the star Bobby Hull his compatriots Anders Hedberg and Ulf Nilsson were among the Topscorern. Over the next three years he won the championship of the WHA twice. After the dissolution of the League, he continued to play with the Jets in the NHL.

Over the 1982/83 season he was delivered to the Edmonton Oilers to Wayne Gretzky. Then In the season 1983/84 he was the first European who had won the WHA title even the Stanley Cup win. A year later, he defended with the Oilers the title.

After three years in Edmonton, he played two more seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins, before he returned to Sweden, where he played for Brynäs IF.
