Winnipeg River

The Winnipeg River is a Canadian river, which drains the Lake of the Woods in Ontario and flows to the Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba.

The river runs over a length of 235 km from the Norman Dam in Kenora to its mouth in Lake Winnipeg. Its catchment area covers 106,500 km ², mostly in Canada. Approximately 29,300 km ² of this area are in northern Minnesota. Measured from the source of the inflow Firesteel River reaches the Winnipeg River has a total length of 813 km.

Geography

Along the riverbank of the Winnipeg River are a series of lakes, which widens the river. In Manitoba are the Nutimik, Eleanor, Dorothy, Margaret, Natalie and Lac du Bonnet. The Lakes Nutimik, Dorothy and Margaret are completely within the Whiteshell Provincial Park. Flushed lakes in Ontario are Gun, Rough rock and sand.
