Wollerau is a municipality in the district courts of the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. Wollerau is alternatingly for two years chief town of the district along with Pfäffikon.

Due to the very low tax rates and its prime residential location on the lake and close to the city of Zurich Wollerau has become the residence of a number of famous personalities.

Geography

Wollerau is located on the eastern foothills of the room mountain. The municipal area stretches from the shores of Lake Zurich against the ridge of the Höhronen and also includes part of the Sihl Valley on the north side of the mountain. In the south, the municipality is crossed by the river Sihl. The western border of the canton of Zurich is the Mühlibach. Neighboring communities of Wollerau are in the northwest Richterswil (ZH), in the Northeast free stream, in the southeast and southwest Feusisberg huts ZH.

History

The territory of the municipality Wollerau ( until the mid 19th century rear yard called ) was in the Middle Ages between the city of Zurich and Schwyz have fiercely disputed. After the defeat in the Old Zurich War Zurich had the farms at the upper lake cede and could not recover them.

As 1831, the short-lived Canton Ausserschwyz was founded remained the rear yard by the old part of the canton.

Economy

The amusement equipment manufacturer Intamin AG and manufacturer of mobile communications Swiss Phone and many consulting and service companies are based in Wollerau.

Attractions

The Catholic parish church of St. Verena was built in the late 18th century in the Rococo style.
