Wulfen is a district of the municipality unit Osternienburger land in the district of Anhalt - Bitterfeld, in Saxony- Anhalt.

Geography

Wulfen is located between Nice (Elbe ) and the county town of Köthen (Anhalt) on the edge of the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve.

History

The district Wulfen has a dense prehistoric settlement since the Neolithic period. Archaeological excavations rendered findings of the Linear Pottery culture and the Jordansmühler Walternienburg - Bernburg culture. A completely preserved megalithic grave on the Hohenberg in the southern part dated to the Late Neolithic Wulfens Bernburger culture (ca. 3500-2800 BC).

Wulfen was first mentioned in the year 995.

On January 1, 2010, the formerly independent communities Wulfen, Chörau, Diebzig, Dornbock, Drosa, Elsnigk, Großpaschleben, Kleinpaschleben, Libbesdorf, Micheln, Osternienburg, Reppichau, Trinum and Zabitz merged to form a unified community Osternienburger country together. At the same time the management of Community Osternienburg, which included these communities was dissolved.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on 4 July 1994 by the regional council of Dessau.

Blazon: "In gold over green sign foot erect a black wolf with red knocked-out tongue in green sign foot a reclining golden spike with five awns. "

It goes back to the family of Wulffen that is documentary evidence with Bernhard and Gero von Wulfen from the year 1156 and with Hans von Wulffen (died 1177 ) as squire to Wulfen begins historiographical. The coat of arms of the von Wulffen shows the wolf, who is the main character in the municipal coat of arms. As an indication of the agriculture and the environment naturelle the municipal coat of arms also has a golden ear of corn in the green sign foot.

Flag

The flag was approved on 4 September 2008 by the county.

The flag is black - yellow ( 1:1) striped ( cross- shape: strips horizontally extending, longitudinal shape: strip running vertically ) and centrally occupied with the municipal coat of arms.

The Kommunalheraldiker Jörg Mantzsch has the flag designed and overseen the approval process.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

South of the village passes the federal highway 185, Bernburg (Saale ) to Köthen (Anhalt). The Wulfen Station is located on the dual-track, electrified railway Magdeburg - Halle, which is served by one each hourly regional train in each direction.
