Würflach is a municipality with 1544 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Neunkirchen, Lower Austria. Located between the high wall and Neunkirchen, Würflach is a tourist town.

Geography

Würflach located in the industrial district, in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the municipality covers 12.32 square kilometers. 57.42 percent of the area is forested.

History

Bavarian monks from the monastery Vornbach ( Formbach ) founded Würflach. The town's name comes from Wirbilach, the swirling Ache, the so-called John gorge. 1094, the name is first mentioned in a deed of gift.

Incorporations

On 1 January 1968, the municipality Hettmann village was annexed to Würflach.

According to the data of the 2001 census, 83.7 % of the population Roman Catholic, 2.4% are Protestant. 0.1 % are Muslim, 0.3% are members of Orthodox Churches. 12.1% of the population has no religious affiliation.

Policy

Mayor of the municipality since June 4, 2012 Franz Woltron which thus succeeding the long-time mayor Hans Schauer, who led the church from 1992 to 2012 took.

In the council, there are a total of 19 seats following distribution of seats: 13 ÖVP, SPÖ 6, no other seats.

Culture and sights

Structures

The parish church was built in the beginning of the 13th century and has the character of a fortified church on. From this period can still be seen a Christ Salvator's head and a sun head ( architecture). From the late Gothic building some elements are still present, although the church was destroyed in 1683 by the Turks. It was rebuilt in the Baroque style and has a tower called a roof skylights.

The "Little Church " or " Sebastian Chapel " near the parish church is from the 15th century and has been left to themselves, until in 1885 it was restored and consecrated as the Sacred Heart Chapel. Today it is one of the most beautiful Gothic constructions in Lower Austria.

Natural Monuments

The John gorge offers great hiking fun for tourists and residents. In addition to the normal passage to offer a six different hiking trails at around the John gorge.
