Xavier Darcos
Darcos (* July 14, 1947 in Limoges ) is a French politician ( UMP). From 23 June 2009 to March 2010 he held the office of the French labor minister.
After his teaching degree in Bordeaux, where he graduated with a doctorate degree, he taught from 1982 to 1987 at a Lycée in Bordeaux. From 1987 to 1992 he taught at another Lycée in Paris before he was appointed to the National School Inspectorate ( IGEN ) in 1992. From 1994 to 1995 he worked on the staff of the then Minister of Education François Bayrou. He then returned to the school board and taught from 1996 to 1999 at the University of Paris -Sorbonne.
From May 2002 to March 2004 it was Secretary of State under Education Minister Luc Ferry and from March 2004 to June 2005 Secretary of State for Development Cooperation and Francophonie in the directed by Michel Barnier Foreign Ministry. In June 2005 he was appointed French Ambassador to the OECD. On 18 May 2007 Darcos was appointed to the French education minister, taking over after a cabinet reshuffle in June 2009, the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Family and Solidarity.

From 1978 to 2008 Darcos was consistently active in the French local politics, including as Mayor of Périgueux ( Aquitaine region ) and Senator for the Dordogne ( Aquitaine region ).
On June 13, 2013 Darcos was elected to succeed Pierre -Jean Rémy to the Académie française. He takes the seat there is a # 40.
