Yang Wenyi

Yang Wenyi (Chinese杨 文意, Pinyin Yáng Wenyi; born January 11, 1972 in Shanghai, China ) is a former Chinese swimmer and Olympic champion.

At the Olympic Summer Games in Seoul in 1988 she won the silver medal in the 50m freestyle at the age of 16 years. Four years later at the Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, it was enough in the same discipline finally to gold. With the Chinese season they also reached the 2nd place 4 × 100 m freestyle.

In April 1988, Yang improved the world record in the 50 meters freestyle by 30 hundredths of a second 00:24,98 min. So she was the first woman to less than 25 seconds needed over this distance. This record they improved four years later in her Olympic victory in Barcelona again by 19 hundredths of a second.
