In his new club he quickly succeeded the jump into the starting lineup, where he played with Mehmet Kakil, a legendary player and one of the most successful Hatayspors second division top scorer of the past years, together. In his first season for Hatayspor Altun scored in 19 league games eleven goals and formed with Kakil, who had scored 13 league goals, one of the most successful duos of the second division in 1996/97. Through these performances he rose to the Turkish U-21 national team. In his second season he improved his performance last year and was with his 14 goals in 29 league games of his club's top scorer and one of the most successful strikers of the league.

Through his achievements in Hatayspor several financially strong clubs were aware of Altun and tried to engage him. Finally, Altun agreed with the then second division club Kayserispor and switched to the Zentralanatoliern. In his new employer Altun enjoyed straight away the confidence of his coach and trained by Mustafa Kocabey in attack the team. While Kocabey with 31 league goals scorer Türkiye Futbol Ligi 2, then the second highest Turkish football class was Altun remained with ten league goals behind expectations. His team played the entire season for the direct promotion to the 1st Lig and missed only by point losses in the last match day of the ascent. Instead, they qualified for the play-offs in the league, where the last riser was determined by knockout method. Here different Kayserispor in the quarter- finals by a 0-1 defeat against Yimpas Yozgatspor, and awarded also the last chance for advancement. In the summer of 1999 left Kocabey Kayserispor so Altun by storm largely the dominant player was. The season he finished with 16 goals, becoming the top scorer. In the first division, he first drew attention to himself during game 16 Round against Galatasaray.

After having Kayserispor failed and the ascent to the summer of 2000, Altun left this club and moved within the league to Kombassan Konyaspor. This association was shortly before the local industrial group Kombassan main sponsor and tried by large investment to bring the club in the first Lig. Altun, established itself among Konyaspor instantly recognizable as a regular player and was in his first season with 16 goals in his club 's top scorer. Konyaspor played with throughout the season for the championship of the league and missed only in the last match days, the connection to the table top. After the direct ascent was missed, the club also missed the indirect promotion through the play-offs in the league. In the 2001 / 02 season, the concept of the league was changed and changed from a Fünfgleisigen on a Single-track league. This season Altun gave his best performance of the season to date. He was charged with 28 goals this season top scorer in the league and was one of the most sought after players in the transfer season 2001 /02.

Since Konyaspor missed the rise in the summer of 2001, Altun left the club. By his own account he signed in the summer of 2002 with the Istanbul giants Besiktas secretly a preliminary agreement. After a Verhandlungdrunde with the club president Yildirim Demirören he signed the preliminary contract. Later he talked with the then club manager Sinan Engin. As his club Elazığspor had missed the league, Altun changed in the summer in the Süper Lig to Malatyaspor. In this club in the meantime, the coach compartment impersonated Aykut Kocaman, that former striker worked with the Altun at Fenerbahçe had trained. Altun played only the first round for Malatyaspor and scored five league goals during this time. But because he did not meet the expectations and the coach of the first division Diyarbakirspor Güvenç Kurtar, had a season previously cooperated successfully under the at Altun Elazığspor, wanted to bring him to his new club, Altun changed in early 2005 to Diyarbakirspor.
