The Sendai Stadium (Japanese仙台 スタジアム, Sendai Sutajiamu ) is a stadium in the Japanese city of Sendai. It can accommodate 19 694 spectators and is the club Vegalta Sendai as homestead.
The Sendai Stadium in Sendai, a major city in Miyagi Prefecture, was built in 1997 and opened in June of the same year. Since its opening, the stadium is used by the club Vegalta Sendai as the venue for home games. The greatest success of the association was previously a championship in the second highest Japanese league, the J. League Division 2. Plays in 2009 by the associated rise in the J. League Division 1 Vegalta Sendai currently in the first division, the club usually plays in Sendai Stadium. In games, where a higher number of audience is expected, the club draws for a short time to the larger Miyagi Stadium in Rifu.
The Sendai stadium can accommodate 19,694 spectators. When Japan together with South Korea hosted the FIFA World Cup 2002, it was not considered as a venue. However, it took the Italian national football team as a training stadium during the World Tournament in East Asia. Since 2003, the Sendai Cup will be held in Sendai Stadium annually. In this tournament, each time teams from Japan, Italy, France, Croatia and Brazil meet. The first Sendai Cup Chievo Verona secured with a win in the final against Lazio, with Oliver Bierhoff scored the decisive goal. Furthermore, it is also used for rugby matches. In the years 2007 and 2008 it was selected as one of the venues of the Pacific Nations Cup. Both times it won a team from New Zealand. The Japanese national rugby team succeeded in Sendai Stadium a 35:13 victory against Tonga during the Pacific Nations Cup 2008.
Owner of the stadium is the city of Sendai. 2006, the naming rights were for three years to the electricity and infrastructure companies KK Yurtec sold, the stadium has since been officially Yurtec Stadium Sendai (ユアテック スタジアム 仙台, Yurutekku Sutajiamu Sendai ). The contract was extended for a further three years in 2009, and again in 2012.
