Zagora (Croatia)

The Dalmatian Zagora or simply Zagora ( " Dalmatian Hinterland ") is a sub-Mediterranean inland landscape in the hinterland of Dalmatia ( Croatia). It is separated by the mountains Mosor and Biokovo from the sea and therefore provides a protected environment for viticulture.

The Dalmatian Zagora is therefore also one of the four major wine-producing areas on the Croatian Adriatic coast. Here the grape variety grown Kujundžuša example, which is considered in this area as indigenous. Wines from this grape are harmonious and her nose has elements of continental and Mediterranean wines.

For the area of Vrgorac, which is partially submerged ( sometimes you can therefore reap here the vines from boats ) are the varieties Medna, Zlatarica, Blatina and Plavina characteristic.

Geography

The actual Dalmatian Zagora covers the area of the so-called hinterland of the cities Kastela, Trogir and Šibenik, and the area around Unesic at Drniš. Geomorfologisch this is the area between the mountains in the north and Moseć Trtra, Boraja, Opora and Kozjak in the south; the villages Brštanove, Dugobabe and Radošić ( Kastela ) in the east to the river Čikola in the West.

In the language of the areas in Drniš, Knin, Sinj and Imotski the Dalmatian Zagora be assigned, although they do not belong geographically.

The climate is predominantly sub-Mediterranean with a few days of snow, just in Imotski rules both sub-Mediterranean climate in the north and Mediterranean climate further south. Mediterranean climate prevails in Vrgorac.
