Zamora-Chinchipe Province

Zamora - Chinchipe is a province in Ecuador. It has an area of 10,500 km ² close to 100,000 inhabitants. Its capital is Zamora. The largest city and commercial center is Yantzaza.

Location

The province is located in the southeast of Ecuador referred to in the Ecuadorian Oriente share in the Amazon lowlands. It is bordered to the west by the province of Loja, in the northwest of Azuay, Morona Santiago in the north and in the east and south by Peru.

Economy

History

The provincial capital, Zamora was in 1550, founded by Alonso de mercadillo, who also built Loja.

The province was formed from the Oriente province and in 1920 divested from their province of Santiago - Zamora founded in 1911, which was divided on 10 November 1953 in two provinces. The northern part formed the province of Morona Santiago ( with capital Macas ), the southern Zamora Chinchipe.

Due to its exposed location on the border with Peru to the east of the province was the scene of repeated hostilities between the two neighboring countries.
