Zdislava Berka

The Holy Zdislava of Lemberk ( * after 1220, † 1252 at Schloss Lemberk at fork ( Jablonné v Podještědí ) ) is venerated as the patron saint of the poor and suffering in Bohemia.

Life

Zdislava was the daughter of Přibyslav of Křižanov, who married in 1220, with the young widow Sibyl, whose late husband, the nobleman Bohuš had been and who had come to Bohemia in the wake of Cunegonde of Staufen.

1238 Zdislava was with gallic from Lviv ( Havel z Lemberka, Latin Gallus de Yablonni, † 1253 ), married, whose ancestors were the March Warden Inger and is said to have founded the city fork and Habelschwerdt in Glatz. From this marriage the sons Gallus II, Jaroslav and Zdislav and daughter Margaret were born.

Around 1240 left Gallus of Lemberk build the Coming and the Hospital of St. John in Bohemian Aicha. 1252 donated Zdislava fork for the Dominican monastery with St. Lawrence Church.

As Terziarin of the Dominican Order Zdislava acted as a benefactor of the poor, sick and leprosy sufferers. She was buried in the crypt of St. Lawrence Church in Fork, soon venerated as miraculous and begged for help.

Veneration of Saints

Already in the 14th century reported the Bohemian chronicler Dalimil about Zdislavas healings of the sick and attributed to her resurrection from the dead five.

Franz Anton Graf Berka of Dubé built 1699-1722 in fork in honor of his ancestor, St.. Zdislava, the construction of the St. Lawrence's Church. It was designed by Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt inspired by the Viennese St. Peter's Church. In a crypt contains the bones of St.. Zdislava.

Later research showed that the family of the Waldstein was related to Zdislava. Despite the efforts of Berka of Dubé initially was no papal confirmation of the survey Zdislavas the blessed of the Catholic Church. This was done until 1907 by Pope Pius X.. Were collected in 1908 her relics in this state.

Even after the takeover of Czechoslovakia by the communists in 1948 sought since 1949, the then Bishop of Leitmeritz Stepán Trochta to Zdislavas canonization, which, however, only took place on 21 May 1995, Pope John Paul II.

Memory

On pilgrimage mountain Svatá hora is a memorial. A Zdislava consecrated church is located since 1994 in Lavičky. In 1996 the church of St. Lawrence was minor from Jablonné v Podještědí, in which the relics of the saints are venerated the Basilica and the patronal feast of St.. Zdislava added together.
