Zlatná na Ostrove

Zlatná na Ostrove ( German Gold Village, Hungarian Csallóközaranyos - to 1907 Aranyos ) a place and a community is in Okres Komárno of Nitriansky kraj in southwestern Slovakia, with 2421 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011).

Geography

The municipality is located in the southeast part of the Great Rye Island, a river island of the Danube, which flows immediately to the south, where it forms the border between Slovakia and Hungary. Thus it is part of the Slovak Danube lowland. The municipality adjacent to the mainland also includes a river island ( Veľkolélsky ostrov ) in the Danube, which is also protected by law, as part of the Protected Landscape Area Dunajské luhy. Zlatná na Ostrove is 11 kilometers away from Komárno.

Administratively divided the community into the church Zlatná parts Horna (Hungarian Felaranyos ), Velky Lél (1873 amalgamated, Hungarian Nagylél ) and Zlatná na Ostrove.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1094 as a locus Aureus writing. The name refers to the former gold-washing on the Danube.
