1980–81 Soviet League season
The 1980/81 season the league Wysschaja was the 35th season of the highest Soviet Hockey League. The Soviet league title secured for a total of 24 times CSKA Moscow, while Dinamo Minsk and Salavat Yulaev Ufa descended to the second division.
Mode
The twelve teams in the league Wysschaja first played in a common main round four times against any opponent, bringing the total number of games per team was 44. The top six teams qualified for the final round then, in each team once played against any opponent and the winner Champion. The results from the main round were incorporated into the final round. The teams which were the main round is in the squares Seven to Twelve, completed in a relegation round further twelve games, with the results from the main round were also taken. The two last placed the relegation round up directly from the second division. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw there was a point and a defeat.
