1984–85 AHL season
The 1984/85 season was the 49th regular season of the American Hockey League ( AHL ). During the regular season, the 13 teams played 80 matches each. The four best teams in the North Division and the South Division then played in a play-off round to the Calder Cup.

Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The Sherbrooke Jets stopped the game operation
- The Nova Scotia Oilers were added as an expansion team in the league
- The Moncton Alpines were sold and played from now on under the name Moncton Golden Flames
- The Nova Scotia Voyageurs were Sherbrooke, Quebec, moved and played from now on under the name Sherbrooke Canadiens

Calder Cup Playoffs
Mode
For the playoffs, the four teams from each division qualified. In the first two play-off rounds, the winner of each division were played. In round three, the two division winners to the finals. All play-off rounds, and the final was played in best- of-seven mode.
