58th Berlin International Film Festival

The 58th International Film Festival Berlin 2008 ( Berlinale ) were held to 17 February 2008 of 7.

The Berlinale was opened with Martin Scorsese documentary Shine a Light. The film documents two concerts by the Rolling Stones in October / November 2006 in New York City. As a graduation film Michel Gondry's Be Kind Rewind was performed.

The festival reached a new record this year. There were more than 20,000 visitors to the festival akkrediert. The Accredited came from 125 countries, including 4,200 journalists. Of the 430,000 moviegoers to 230,000 visitors bought a ticket. In addition to the Rolling Stones came stars like Madonna and the Indian megastar Shah Rukh Khan at the Berlinale, to celebrate the world premiere of their films.

International Jury

The President of the international jury was the Greek- French director Constantin Costa -Gavras, who won a Golden Bear at the Berlinale 1990. He was assisted by the actresses Diane Kruger ( Germany ) and Shu Qi ( Taiwan), the German designer Uli Hanisch, the Oscar-winning American sound engineer and editor Walter Murch and the Russian film producer Alexander Rodnjanski. Danish director Susanne Bier and French actress Sandrine Bonnaire said their participation from shortly before the beginning of the film festival.

In the short film competition of the Berlinale ran 29 films, including 11 in competition.

Panorama section

In the Panorama section 50 films were presented this year, including 18 documentaries. Opening film of the main program was the Russian production of Rusalka Anna Melikyan. " Panorama Special " opened with the film Lemon Tree by Eran Riklis with Hiam Abbass in the lead role. Within the section presented Madonna her first film Filth and Wisdom as a director before. Produced by Fatih Akin film Chiko was also part of the Panorama program.

Generation section

The Generation section consists of the parts Kplus ( kids movies) and 14plus ( youth films from 14 years). In both parts were as prizes Crystal Bears, granted for the Best Feature Film and Best Short Film, of a children's or youth jury.

Retrospective

The retrospective devoted to the work of Luis Buñuel. With a comprehensive program of his works and a series of lectures, the Spanish director was honored.

Tribute

The homage of the 58th Berlin International Film Festival was dedicated to the Italian director Francesco Rosi. On 14 February 2008, he was honored for his life's work with the Honorary Golden Bear.

Perspective German Cinema

Perspective Deutsches Kino wants to go to the organizers make people curious about current trends and developments in German cinema. Be selected each about twelve films of the current year.
