Báb, Nitra District

Báb ( Baab German, Hungarian Báb ) is a small town in Slovakia west of the city of Nitra.

History

The village was founded in 1955 by the merger of the municipalities Velky Bab ( 1948: 928 inhabitants) and Maly Bab ( 1980: 926 inhabitants). Bab retained its rural character to this day.

Velky Báb was first mentioned in 1156. At that time the place was an official of the castle of Nitra. As of 1268, the village belonged to the castle of Nitra, later he was given by the king to a citizen of Trnava, then he belonged to different families. Gentry was represented in the 18th century by the family Majthényi, Zichy and of Esterházy.

Maly Bab is only occupied in 1365. Since 1788 the city had the right to hold markets. The Gentry was identical to that of Velky Bab.
