Barbara Oliver Hagerman

Barbara Hagerman, OPEI ( born February 9, 1943 in Hartland, New Brunswick as Barbara Oliver ) is a Canadian singer, choir director and music teacher. From 2006 to 2011 she was Deputy Governor of the Province of Prince Edward Iceland and represented as such, the head of state, Queen Elizabeth II, at the provincial level.

Biography

She studied singing and organ playing at the Mount Allison University. In 1965 she moved with her husband Nelson Hagerman to Prince Edward Iceland. The mother of two children taught at schools in their hometown Summerside and Charlottetown. Hagerman was vocal soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of Prince Edward Iceland. From 1986 to 2003 she headed the Summerside Community Choir and had this numerous appearances in Eastern Canada, 1997, at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

On a proposal by Prime Minister Stephen Harper appointed Governor General Michaëlle Jean Hagerman on July 12, 2006 Deputy Governor of Prince Edward Iceland. This appointment was criticized as cronyism and complacency on the part of conservative Prime Minister. Her husband Nelson Hagerman had been Party of Canada and a conservative lobbying organization as well as financial advisor to the Prince Edward Iceland Progressive Conservative Party until shortly before taking office on 31 July 2006 Treasurer of the Province section of the Conservatives.

Hager Mans term of office ended on 15 August 2011; their was succeeded by Frank Lewis.
