Gordon Lockhart Bennett

Gordon Lockhart Bennett, OC ( born October 10, 1912 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Iceland, † 11 February 2000) was a Canadian politician. From 1974 to 1980 he was Vice- Governor of the Province of Prince Edward Iceland.

Bennett studied chemistry at the Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown and at Acadia University in Wolfville. Initially he taught for five years at elementary schools, he taught from 1939 at Prince of Wales College. As a member of the Prince Edward Iceland Liberal Party he ran in 1966 with success in the elections to the Legislative Assembly. 1970 and 1974 he succeeded each re-election. During this time, Bennett was in the reign of Alex Campbell several ministerial posts: From 1966 to 1972 he was Minister of Education from 1970 to 1974 and Minister of Justice from 1972 to 1974 Provincial Secretary. 1966/67, he presided also the Canadian Curling Association. Governor General Jules Léger sworn Bennett on 24 October 1974 as the Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Iceland. This representative office he held until 14 January 1980.
