Cerbăl

Cerbăl [ tʃerbɘl ] (deprecated Cerbel; Hungarian Cserbel ) is a municipality in the district of Hunedoara in Transylvania, Romania.

Location

Located in the southwestern part of the historical region of Transylvania, the community extends its eight eingemeindeten villages on the back of the Poiana Rusca - Mountains. Covering an area of ​​12,863 hectares (of which 4,812 hectares of agricultural processed ), the municipality in the west of the district of Hunedoara. On a Mountain Path - a continuation of the county road (drum Judetean ) DJ 687J - the location is situated about 20 kilometers east of the nearest large town of Hunedoara; the district capital Deva ( Deva ) is located about 38 km (19 km distance) away to the northeast.

History

The place Cerbăl in 1476 first mentioned. Five kilometers east of Cerbăl 1874 different pieces of jewelery were discovered by archaeologists, who are in museums in Budapest and Deva. According to reports from C. Gooss (1877 ), F. Romer (1886 ), G. Téglás (1887 ) and others indicate this on the La Tène period.

Population

1850 lived on the territory of the present municipality of 1,602 inhabitants; 1,580 were Romanians, three Hungarians and 19 Roma. 1880, with 2104 having the largest population - even at the same time the Romanians ( 2085 ) - determined and it has slowed steadily. 2002 lived on the territory of the municipality or 665 people, of which 661 Romanians, two Hungarians, a Rome and a Slovak. The highest number of Hungarians ( 24) in 1910, the Deutsche 1900 ( 2) and the registered Roma 1850. In addition, in 1910 ten residents refer to as Ukrainians, 1910 a and 1930 a Serb, two, three in 1930 and 2002 as a Slovak.

The population lives mainly from agriculture and animal husbandry. Because of the steep terrain, the farming is done in terraced fields.

Attractions

  • The wooden church of eingemeindeten village Poienita Tomii, built in 1802, is located approximately 4 kilometers northwest of Cerbăl away.
  • Numerous hiking trails attract mainly tourists from Romania to Cerbăl and its scenic surroundings. The region receives but since the early 2000s, more and more visitors from across the border will and adventure tourists from Western Europe.
