Chotovice (Česká Lípa District)

Chotovice ( German Kottowitz ) is a municipality of Okres Ceska Lipa in the Liberec Region in the north of the Czech Republic.

History

The emergence of Kottowitz (originally called Kotovice obviously ) taken in conjunction with the foundation of the castle Bürgstein. Mid-15th century, the area belonged to the reign of Pihl ​​, mid-17th century it became part of the dominion of the Bürgsteiner Kolovrat. Their descendants, the Hroznata from Kokorov, the rule of selling the Kinsky. The first record of the village can be found in the court dinners from 1455 ( piscina juxtra Villam Kotwicze ).

The population lived from agriculture, since the 18th century they had an extra income through the glass decoration. Later, the local farmers supplied the city Haida, the nearby center of glass production, with dairy products. Administratively formed Kottowitz from the mid-19th century, a municipality in the district court or in the district Bohemian Haida Leipa.

In 1880 lived in Kottowitz 412 German -speaking residents. With its cadastral Kottowitz touches in the district of Neu- Kottowitz the area of Haida, who merged in 1924 with the city as the district Hřebenka. Besides New Kottowitz which also had the district Neu- Italy, is a member of the wasteland Skala (stones wall ) on the road from Ceska Lipa ( Czech Leipa ) to Nový Bor ( Haida ). About Kottowitz the Kottowitzer mountain or mountain rises Kasper called. The municipal area flows through the Kottowitzer Bach.

In 1838, the local farmer Wenzel HELZEL founded in the community a simple bath, which used a source ferruginous water and peat, which was mined in the area surrounding the Rotteiches. Over time, the bathing facility, where they were treated particularly anemia (chlorosis) and rheumatism enlarged. The bathers was also a small park available, as well as a restaurant. The bathroom was still in operation until 1945.

The beginnings of the local school system date to the end of the Thirty Years' War, a school was opened on 5 May 1886. The class ended shortly after the Second World War.

A monument in the church is the Chapel of the Visitation, built in 1776.
