Condat-sur-Ganaveix

Condat- sur -Ganaveix ( de Condat Ganavés in Occitan ) is a commune with 637 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Corrèze, in the Limousin region. The municipality is a member of the Association of Municipalities Pays d' Uzerche. The inhabitants call themselves Condatois (it).

Geography

The municipality is located in the Massif Central at the foot of the Plateau de Millevaches.

Tulle, prefecture of the department is located, about 30 kilometers south-east, Brive- la -Gaillarde about 38 kilometers southwest and Uzerche about six kilometers south-west. The village is located about six kilometers from the exit 44 of the A20 Motorway.

Neighboring communities of Condat- sur -Ganaveix are Meilhards in the north, Eyburie in the east, Uzerche in the south, Saint- Ybard the southwest, Salon- la-Tour in the west and Lamongerie Northwest.

The Ganaveix and the Ruisseau des Forges, two right tributaries of Bradascou, run through the municipality. The Ganaveix flowing about two kilometers south-east from the center of Condat in the Bradascou, this ultimately leads to the west of Uzerche in the Vézère.

History

The name Condat- sur -Ganaveix comes from Condate from the Celtic -speaking world and refers to the confluence of two rivers. This name already indexed so that a very long history of settlement. However, Condat was first mentioned only in the cartulary of Uzerche 1073-1086. The community developed between the Ruisseau des Forges and the Ganaveix.
