Sainte-Fortunade

Sainte- Fortunade is a commune with 1781 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011), located in the department of Corrèze, in the Limousin region. The inhabitants call themselves Fortunadais (it). The municipality is a member of the Association of Municipalities Tulle et Cœur de Corrèze.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Massif Central, about 9 kilometers south of Tulle, removed the prefecture of the department.

The municipality is located on a plateau in the north slightly inclined to the Corrèze and south to Ganette.

Neighboring communities of Tulle Laguenne are in the north, Laguenne in the northeast, Ladignac -sur- Rondelles in the east, Lagarde Enval and Albussac the southeast, Beynat in the South, Le Chastang in the southwest, Cornil in the west and Chameyrat in the northwest.

History

In the area around Sainte- Fortunade can have traces of settlement from prehistoric times to prove, including the so-called missing Dolmen of Clairfarge as a former witness the era of megalithic culture. This included a likely passing at Sainte- Fortunade " highway " from the Bronze and Iron Ages between Armorica and the Mediterranean. The large number of flint finds seem to confirm this. Similarly, the Celts and the Romans have left their mark on the community area. Up to 894 were called castle and village of Saint Martial le Noir, after the arrival of the relics of Saint Fortunade the town was renamed after her.
