Salon-la-Tour

Salon- la-Tour ( Salom in Occitan ) is a commune with 692 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Corrèze, in the Limousin region. The municipality is a member of the Association of Municipalities Pays d' Uzerche.

Geography

The community lies on the edge of the Massif Central and is adjacent to the entrance gate to Masseret Corrèze. The headwaters of the Ruisseau des Forges, a right tributary of the Bradascou, runs through the municipality.

Tulle, prefecture of the department is located, about 35 kilometers south-east, Brive- la -Gaillarde 45 miles south and Uzerche about ten kilometers to the southeast.

The village is located about halfway between junctions 43 and 44 of the A20 Motorway.

Neighboring communities of Salon- la-Tour are Lamongerie in the north, Condat- sur -Ganaveix in the east, Saint- Ybard in the south, the west and Benayes Masseret in the northwest.

Attractions

  • Tower, remains of a fortress from the 11th century, built by the viscounts of Limoges and destroyed by Richard the Lionheart, classified as a monument historique since 1992.
  • Built Château du Pin, a castle from the 15th century, 1550 burned down, between the 16th and 19th century again, burned again in 1916, now restored.
  • Château de la Grènerie, a castle built in 1450 by the Lesbolières family, then sold to the family Beaupoil de St- Aulaire, a Breton family, who completed the construction and later extended, classified as a monument historique since 1975. The castle with a three -acre park and pond can be visited.
