Dare County, North Carolina
Dare County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Manteo, named after the Indian chief, Sir Walter Raleigh to England took.
Geography
The County is located in the extreme east of North Carolina, is about 30 km from the Atlantic Ocean and has an area of 4044 square kilometers, of which 3051 square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hyde County and Tyrrell County.
History
Dare County was formed in 1870. It was named after Virginia Dare, the first child of English parents supposed to be born in America.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Dare County 29 967 people in 12,690 households and 8,451 families. The population density was 30 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 94.75 percent White, 2.66 percent African American, 0.28 percent Native American, 0.37 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.90 percent from other races groups; 1.00 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.22 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 12,690 households out of which 27.3 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 55.0 percent were married couples living together, 8.1 percent were single mothers and 33.4 percent were non-families. 25.0 percent of all households and 7.9 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.79.
21.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 6.3 percent 18 to 24 years 30.8 percent between 25 and 44, 27.7 percent between 45 and 64, and 13.8 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 40 years. In all females there were 101.5 males. In all women aged 18 years or over 100.2 males.
The median income for a household was $ 42,411, and the median income for a family was $ 49,302. Males had a median income of $ 31,240 versus $ 24,318 for females. The per capita income was $ 23,614. 8.0 percent of the population and 5.5 percent of families are below the poverty line. 9.9 percent of them are children and adolescents under age 18 and 5.3 percent are 65 years or older.
