Dare County, North Carolina

Dare County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Manteo, named after the Indian chief, Sir Walter Raleigh to England took.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme east of North Carolina, is about 30 km from the Atlantic Ocean and has an area of ​​4044 square kilometers, of which 3051 square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hyde County and Tyrrell County.

History

Dare County was formed in 1870. It was named after Virginia Dare, the first child of English parents supposed to be born in America.
